Guoliang Chen

Honorary Director
Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences

Biography

Prof. Guoliang Chen is an expert in parallel algorithms and high-performance computing. He was born in Yingshang, Anhui, and graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1961 with a major in computational mathematics and computational instrumentation. He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003. Now Prof. Chen is the director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology of Shenzhen University and the Honorary Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

Prof. Chen's main research fields are parallel algorithms and high-performance computing and its applications. He has undertaken more than ten scientific research projects such as the National 863 Program, the National Climbing Program, the National 973 Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation. Prof. Chen has made several research results that have been widely cited in the world and reaches the advanced international level. He has published more than 400 papers and ten academic books and textbooks. He has won the 2nd National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1st National Award for Outstanding Teaching in Higher Education, 2nd Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Over the years, Prof. Chen has gradually formed a complete set of parallel algorithm discipline systems of “algorithm theory-algorithm design-algorithm implementation-algorithm application” around parallel algorithms’ teaching and research. He has proposed a parallel computing research method integrating “parallel machine structure-parallel algorithm-parallel programming.”
